BASIC OFFERING:

"Basic Course for Youth and Adults"
Instructor: Pastor Fred Snyder
Text: Lay Speaking Ministries - Basic Course Course focuses on three primary aspects of lay speaking ministry: leading, caring and communicating. This is a required course for those wishing to pursue certification as a Lay Speaker.

BASIC REFRESHER COURSE:
Instructor: Rev. Jean Blackie
Opening Ourselves to Grace

This will be held on Saturday, October 15 at the Central UMC at 205 11th St., Honesdale Pa. 18431 From 9:00am to 2:00pm, lunch will be provided.

This class is designed for those who want to keep their basic Lay Speaking certification, but anyone who would like to enrich their knowledge are encouraged to attend. Cost for this class is $12.

NOTE: You do not have to plan to be a lay speaker if you wish to take a course. Anyone can participate.


ADVANCED COURSE OFFERINGS:

"Laity as Leaders in the 21st Century Church"
Instructor: Rev. Bette Poe Retired Pastor, Scranton District
How will the church of tomorrow be different from the church of yesterday? And what is the role of laity in the church today as we live into possibilities of the future? The class will be an ongoing discussion of the possibilities, challenges, and guesswork involved in acceptingGod's promise, "Behold, I am making a new thing."

"Confronting Death"
Instructor: Kathy Fiske
Text: Confronting Death: a Christian Approach to the end of Life. Together we will look at confronting serious illness, caring of the ill and dealing with death through scripture and discussion.


There are two categories of Lay Speakers:

1. Local Church Lay Speaker
Must complete basic course and then take the refresher course once every three years.
.
2. Certified Lay Speaker
Must complete at least one advanced course in addition to basic course. To retain certification, an advanced course must be taken at least every three years.
